How I did it:
Follow the instructions here.
Just type 'Google Car Home' whenever it refers to Google Wallet.
The app will install, but then give you a message that it's not compatible. You will not see it in your apps - however if you go to settings-->apps it's in the list - there is just no icon available.
So there is a final step, install this app.
All this app does is give you a toggle to launch the default car home app. If you have more than one installed, it will as which you want to use.
I've used Google Car Home on my Verizon Nexus today and it works great. I've also changed the colors now so they match 'ICS blue'.
So there you have it! Google Car Home on your unlocked, unrooted completely stock Galaxy Nexus!
I have a straight from Google Galaxy Nexus, and this did not work for me.
ReplyDeleteWhen I followed the instructions, after I selected Google Car Home in the browser market search results, it launched Play, with the app, but at the head of the page it says: "Your device isn't compatible with this version."
I don't understand why Google is selling a car dock, without the car home app? Especially if the old one still works? It is a PITA to use in the car without the car home.
You can't get it from the Play market app.
ReplyDeleteTry going to Settings-->Apps-->Play-->Clear Defaults
They follow the steps again and when it prompts you whether to use the Play app or the browser, choose the browser.
I agree, I don't know why it's this difficult - let alone why it's not preloaded on the phone.
